Robert
and Freda Caplan are entertaining colleagues and guests at their
country retreat. A chance remark by one of the guests ignites a series
of devastating revelations, inexorably unraveling a hitherto
undiscovered tangle of clandestine relationships and dark secrets, the
disclosures of which have tragic consequences. The play ends with time
springing back to the beginning of the evening, the chance remark not
being made, the secrets remaining hidden, the "dangerous corner”
avoided, and comfortable relationships continue.

Whitehouse "a somewhat excitable youngster' - younger
partner*. Freda's brother, his father, retired six months ago.

Whitehouse his wife, young, apparently carefree. Lively
and bravely managing.
Charles Trevor
Stanton "rather studied, slightly sardonic manner" - third
partner*. More recently worked his way up from starting as
clerk
Olwen Peel (F)
valued long-term employee: independent, strong, self-contained.
Maud Mockridge
"A smart, middle-aged novelist" published by firm. Friend Stanton
says she is a gossip -- she agrees.
NOT seen:
Martin Caplan.
Brother of Robert & Gordon : died nearly a year ago under
unclear circumstances. All cast seem
to have known him well.
